Jaida, Elevate mentor

Jaida, Senior Product Owner at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, mentored an A-Level student interested in pursuing a career in clinical psychology. Jaida provided guidance on achieving goals while exploring different paths, drawing from her own experiences of being mentored.

Outcomes

Both Jaida and her mentee gained valuable insights from the experience. For Jaida, it allowed her to develop communication skills, especially speaking effectively with younger generations who have different influences and challenges compared to when she was their age. It enhanced her emotional intelligence, empathy and ability to motivate others to find their own solutions. Providing feedback on her mentee's CV and practicing leadership skills were other areas of professional growth. Her mentee notably progressed from lacking confidence to securing a role she had been apprehensive about applying for. Jaida celebrated this milestone which represented how far her mentee had come in her ability to implement the advice that she received and take the initiative. "She listened...she secured her role. For me, that was a wow moment. I mean, that takes courage...to just walk in and ask, but she did it," Jaida shared proudly.

Lasting Legacy

Jaida is already exploring ways to continue supporting her mentee's journey by connecting her with potential work experience opportunities through her network. She reflects on the experience as, "Amazing" and, “Deeply rewarding,” appreciating the chance to have a positive impact on someone's growth and future career path. Her time had such a positive impact on her that Jaida is eager to participate in similar initiatives going forward.
