Skylar, Pathway+ Mentee
Skylar is an 18-year-old student who recently completed A-Levels in Economics, Mathematics and Physics and is preparing to begin her degree in Accounting, Finance and Management at the University of Nottingham. Her long-term ambition is to become a Chartered Accountant, supported by the additional professional qualifications available through her university course.
Recognising that the transition from sixth form to higher education brings significant changes, Skylar joined the Pathway+ programme for additional guidance and advice. She wanted a supportive space to ask questions and gain practical insights, ensuring she felt prepared as she entered this new chapter of her life.

Outcomes
Through Pathway+ and her relationship with her mentor, Skylar gained practical career skills, academic preparation and personal growth. Her mentor created a comfortable, professional and respectful environment, actively listening to her needs and providing helpful information and advice.
Skylar learned how to adapt her CV for internship applications, identify relevant opportunities, navigate university life, make new connections and adjust to higher-level learning. The mentoring also strengthened her communication skills, helping her develop how she expresses her thoughts and ideas.
Beyond one-to-one mentoring, the programme’s in-person events allowed Skylar to connect with people from different backgrounds, helping her develop as an individual and feel more prepared for the future.

By developing practical skills, Skylar has gained valuable tools that will support her as she begins university and works towards her ambition of becoming a Chartered Accountant.
